What are the steps you take to become a biology professor?

I find cellular biology and human anatomy very interesting and I would love to teach it a collegiate level. I’m starting college in the spring and I would like to know the graduate coursework involved in eventually becoming a professor.

  • You need to earn a PhD in biology to teach it at the 4-year college or university level (a masters is usually enough for community college). In addition, most jobs will require 2-6 years of postdoc experience, publications, and a record of successful grants in order to get a job. But it’s not an easy job to get; each job posting gets hundreds of qualified applicants, and they’ll only interview a few people.
