Explain why radiation may end up killing the cell damage to the DNA?

Radiation from the sun, or even from some radioactive chemical can actually damage a cell’s DNA. Sometimes if the radiation is strong enough it can result in a cell dying.
Please explain it to me base on human anatomy and physiology class. I need help for my exam. Thanks!
