Natural Acne Treatments

Acne is a common skin condition among both men and women. A definitive cause of acne is not known but most triggers have been identified. Natural acne treatments use the body’s ability to heal itself when given the right nutrients, as well as preventative measures to avoid triggers.

Many acne sufferers look for medications and treatments (over the counter, mail order and prescription) to treat their skin conditions and reduce their emotional and psychological suffering. However, it is important to remember that even though you may be tempted to use only medication, by incorporating natural preventative measures the treatment success rate will jump dramatically. The skin is the second largest organ in the body and is used to eliminate wastes and toxins. Because the skin is an organ it responds to the nutrients you feed it. Correct nutrition is important for a healthy glowing complexion and to avoid the overproduction of oil which increases the risk of acne.

A common natural treatment for healthy skin is to increase your water intake to at least 8 –8 oz glasses of water per day. This increase in hydration will eliminate wastes effectively and help to plump your skin, giving you a more youthful appearance.

When you eat foods that are high in fats or sugars this affects the production of hormones in your body. Too many hormones increase the production of oil and causes clogging of the glands and infection, which leads to acne. The liver metabolizes the hormones that your body produces. The body has too much hormone when either too much is produced or the liver is unable to appropriate metabolize the hormones that are being produced.

One food that helps to keep your skin clean are apples. As the intestines are digesting apples the food keeps the bad bacteria in the intestines so they are not eliminated through the skin.

Vitamin A and carotene have also been found the help rebuild healthy tissue and prevent outbreaks. (2)

Drinking fresh juices is also considered an excellent natural acne treatment. Cucumber juice, either by itself or mixed with the juices of carrots, lettuce or alfalfa, has been found to be another natural acne treatment. Fresh juices should be made and drunk within 12 hours since the active living enzymes die after 12 hours.

A good cystic natural acne treatment is to juice or blend a fresh apricot and apply it to the affected area for both relief and a cure. Many over the counter facial scrubs are made with apricots although the concentration is negligible and the living enzymes have died after 12 hours.
